I’ve been diagnosed with 2 torn tendons: distal obturator internus and inferior gemellus. I also have tendinitis of the piriformis tendon and tendinosis of the gluteous medius tendon. This has been going on for over 18 months, and I suspect that the scar tissue has been building up also. Would surgery help me? My rhuematologist thought so but the ortho doc refused treatment. Should I get a second opinion?
gosh, when you know please let me know- i’ve had a partially torn hamstring tendon for over 7 months now & i am still going through physical therapy. talk to your doctor about cortozone shots, that’s what i might be getting. the surgery is usually used if the tendon is completely unattached from the bone. if it is, then i would definitely consider that. YES, get a second opinion. the first doctor i went to told me it was pulled- and i was in pain for MONTHS, knowing it must be more than a pulled muscle. always get a second opinion, even a third or fourth.

I have been suffering with piriformis for 3 months. Have been stretching daily, PT for my hip, and getting deep tissue massages. Has anyone else tried any other treatments that work. I can run slowly 4-5 miles, but continue to have a itchy pain in my hip. Any sugestions would be appreciated.
There is no TRUE cure for piriformis syndrome. Based of what you said, so far you are doing everything right. Stretching, and massages will definitely help ease the pain in you hip. Many websites suggest seeing a physical therapist and have them asses and give you a specific exercises to do to get rid of the pain. Also anti-inflammatory medicines (ibuprofen) can be taken to reduce the pain from the irritating nerve.
